  I started researching Evolution Diet in 1987 after the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Lab and a vet I was seeing could not or would not tell me what had killed a number of my pets. I started looking into pet food ingredients and what I found out shocked me. Diseased animals and animal meal or animal by products go into virtually all pet foods. Heads, spines, (another threat with mad cow disease), intestines and fecal content, mold, bacteria etc. even go into prescription pet foods that are used to treat sick animals. The pet food industry has not changed except for vegetarian pet foods. Unfortunately, veterinians have little or no formal training in nutrition or the use of naturopathic or nutraceutical medicine. Virtually all their limited nutritional information comes from pet food and feed companies that actually pay vet schools to teach their students about their animal by product foods.

    I perform virtually all the veterinary work for our rescue. I am not a vet, although I hold a doctorate in health sciences. I also run a human Naturopathic Practice and over the past fifteen years, I have developed numerous and very successful naturopathic treatments for life threatening diseases in small animals. I often use conventional and holistic treatments together. Every day I get sick animal calls from people all over the country. I have helped many animals and people avoid needless suffering.

1.  With a very sick animal, seek veterinary help immediately to see what is wrong. Get a proper diagnosis! I always combine conventional therapy with holistic therapy because it is very effective for many of the possible complications that can arise from severe illness. Holistic/Naturopathic therapy has virtually no side effects: You can mix medications to treat different organs simutaneously with little or no threat of negative drug interaction. Often when a smal animal is very sick from toxins, bacteria, virus, and or mold infestations, several different organs including the heart and brain will be affected. Multiple treatments may have to be administered simultaneously to save the animal's life. You don't have to euthanize your pet because it is very sick.

2.  Maintain normal temperature. Keep Noni, a waterproof bed, waterproof heating pad, blankets and a thermometer and a hot water vaporizer at home always for treating an animal at home. A sick animal will often move itself around to normalize temp, but it is a good idea to check every several hours with a thermometer until your reasonably sure that temperature has stabilized at about 100 degrees F. Low or high temperatures can easily kill a sick animal rapidly. If the animal is moving around alot, it may be necessary to confine it in kennel with a bed and blanket and heating pad. If the condition involves the heart and respiratory tract, keep a heat actvated water vaporizer near the animal (but not where it can burn the animal). Vets often forget the importance of using these important medical devices. Vets make mistakes like all doctors, but a mistake with a very sick animal can mean death.

3.  If cost is a consideration, treat the animal at home: it will increase the animal's chance of surviving! Write down the vet's exact instructions and use them at home. Ask him to give details so that you can respond. Consider the extra treatments I mentioned to increase your pet's ability to overcome the illness. Keep your sick pet in a quiet place and give time. They need time to heal just like you or I. You may be able to save thousands of dollars in vet expenses and at the same time give your pet a much better chance of surviving. Be prepared to clean up poop and urine from your sick friend.

    I can assure you that sick animals respond very well and show a tremendous amount of resilience when combining therapies and using Evolution Diet.
